Chiropractic Care In Pregnancy

You want to do WHAT with me while I’m pregnant?!

I want to relieve you of the lower back pain and hip pain that the small task of growing a little person has caused! I want to take pressure off of that sciatic nerve! I want to help relieve that heartburn! I want to make sure that your baby is in the best position it can be; I want your body to be in optimal shape for birth. Because it is quite the event! I want to adjust you!

More and more women are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care during pregnancy. While the most common initial complaint from women who seek chiropractic care during pregnancy is low back pain, the more they are noticing its additional benefits.

Chiropractic care is the art and science of adjusting misaligned joints of the body, especially of the spine, thus reducing spinal nerve stress and promoting optimal health and well-being. Chiropractic is a safe and natural approach to enhancing the body’s ability to function properly, helping with infertility issues, pain, and birth positioning.

There are no contraindications to proper chiropractic care throughout pregnancy and there are endless benefits.

There are multiple research studies showing the benefits of chiropractic care throughout all phases of family planning. Chiropractic adjustments can help with infertility. In many cases, fertility issues may be associated with improper nervous system functioning, poor nutrition, high stress and poor lifestyle habits. Chiropractors are neuro-musculoskeletal specialists and helping to reduce stress and interference in the nervous system is our primary goal.

Chiropractic care in pregnancy is most well known for helping with the back pain, hip pain and sciatic pain that many women suffer from during pregnancy. As the front portion of the belly gets larger, the back and pelvis take on a lot more pressure and stress on the backside, trying to accommodate the growing baby as well as continue to keep the mom upright. When this happens, pregnant women often experience moderate to severe muscle spasm and general discomfort. Chiropractic adjustments are a safe way to manage pain during pregnancy.

Last, but certainly not least, chiropractic care has benefitted women whose babies are improperly positioned during the last trimester. The Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health conducted a study that observed the effectiveness of chiropractic care on patients with pregnancy related complaints, including breech babies. After getting adjusted twice per week, starting in her 34th week of pregnancy, her presenting complaints of sharp low back, hip and leg pain, as well as her baby in a transverse (side to side) position, resolved and she was able to deliver her baby naturally.
